About The Customer
Our customer is one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK and operates from several major hospital sites and a number of community locations.
Challenges
Formed as the result of a merger of several separate NHS Trusts, our customer provides care to over 2.5 million patients in its London borough.
Prior to their merger, each hospital operated their own separate backup and disaster recovery solution, spanning a total of 1,000+ servers and storing several petabytes of data.
The scale of the merger created a clear need to consolidate the disparate backup and disaster recovery platforms into one superior service capable of handling the large volume of sensitive patient data. Because of the sensitive nature of the data, the trust needed to engage a UK-based partner who not only had experience with handling large and complex data protection and support requirements but also conformed to all necessary security and governance requirements.
Solution
Having analysed several new and existing solutions already within the hospitals, the trust selected ORIIUM to deploy a Commvault-based data protection service consisting of on-premise backup and disaster recovery protection, with offsite cloud-based storage.
Results
ORIIUM delivered a solution that enables the trust to manage their data at scale across all hospital sites from one central dashboard. Sensitive data is protected both locally to its highly available Sitecache appliances, meeting the trust’s desired RTO requirements, whilst secondary copies are stored in ORIIUM’s own UK-based cloud storage platform for long-term data retention and offsite recovery.
